Olivia Munn and John Mulaney are happy to welcome a little girl, Méi June Mulaney, through a surrogate mother

“I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon, for making the journey to be with us,” she wrote.

Munn shared on Instagram that Méi, whose name means “plum” in Chinese and who was born on Sept. 14, was carried by a surrogate who Munn described as “a real angel.” Munn has undergone multiple surgeries as part of what she described as “aggressive” treatment for breast cancer, including a bilateral mastectomy and related reconstructive surgeries, an oophorectomy and hysterectomy, and more. The surgeries removed Munn’s ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes to prevent her body from producing estrogen, which her type of breast cancer responds to. That same June fashion In an interview detailing her treatment, Munn said she also froze her eggs because she and Mulaney “feel like we’re not done starting a family yet.”

She said that before undergoing chemotherapy, radiation or surgeries, she had undergone an egg retrieval that resulted in two healthy embryos. She knew that while she and Mulaney would not be physically able to carry their pregnancy to term, she and Mulaney had options.

“Being a surrogate is no longer a scary prospect for me because there is nothing I can do,” she said. “I am no longer able to carry a baby, so this is our option if we want to start a family. This journey has made me realize how grateful I am to have the opportunity to not only fight cancer, but also have more children if we want to, because I know many people don’t have those options.”

In the post announcing the baby’s arrival, Munn profusely thanked her daughter’s surrogate mother.

“I had so many deep emotions about not being able to carry my daughter,” she wrote. “When I first met our surrogate, we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much kindness and understanding that I knew I had found a true angel. Words cannot express my gratitude for protecting our baby for nine months and making our dreams come true.”

Mulaney, who is set to return to the Broadway stage this winter, All In: Comedy about lovespoke with David Letterman in April, when he told fellow comedian that Munn’s pregnancy with son Malcolm was “a big surprise,” but that fatherhood had changed his life.

“It wasn’t so much that I thought I wasn’t going to have a kid, but… it was never a good day to have a kid,” Mulaney said. “I just didn’t think about it. I just… kind of lived from one minute to the next. And then this guy came along. I was totally blown away when I met him. I was like, ‘Oh, there you are.’ I was looking in not good places and then, ‘Oh, there you are.’ That was my first thought.”
