Omaha’s Eppley Airfield receives .4 million grant from NDOT through FAA program

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – Omaha Airport received more funding for its major renovation project.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation has granted Eppley Airfield $3.46 million to continue rebuilding the terminal, a project that began in February and will cost a total of about $950 million.

In total, NDOT awarded $18 million to 24 different airports in Nebraska. The largest grant went to Eppley after Beatrice Municipal Airport, which received $4.8 million as part of a project to reconstruct its runway and taxiway.

The money comes from a nationwide initiative to make airports safer and more accessible. The FAA has distributed $123 million in grants to more than 200 airports across the country.

Other Nebraska airports that received funds from this grant program included Blair Executive, Nebraska City Municipal and Plattsmouth Municipal. Click here to view the full list and corresponding grant amounts.

For Omaha, this is just the latest of several grants already awarded for the expansion and renovation project. Just before groundbreaking for construction in February, Eppley received $3.1 million from the FAA. A month later, in March, another $7 million was secured through the Consolidated Appropriations Act.

The project, officially titled “Build OMA Terminal Modernization Project,” is scheduled to be completed in 2028.

While construction continues, weather has made normal operations at Eppley somewhat difficult this summer. The airport is still recovering from several destructive storms in Omaha over the past four months, including a tornado that struck the runway in April and damaging wind speeds that accompanied an outbreak of severe weather in late June.
