A major fire broke out in a mobile home at the Moffett Mobile Home Park in Mountain View on Saturday morning, killing one person, destroying the home and sending a fire captain to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder.

According to a statement from the Mountain View Fire Department, emergency dispatch received a call around 5:40 a.m. reporting a fire at the mobile home park at 440 Moffett Boulevard.

Firefighters entered the burning house, where flames were visible from the outside walls, and found one resident inside. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the large blaze, which caused the floor inside the apartment building to collapse, the statement said. A fire captain in the building broke through the floor and dislocated his shoulder. He was taken to a local hospital.

Firefighters extinguished the fire with assistance from the Palo Alto Fire Department, which did not spread to neighboring mobile homes. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The RV was a total loss, with damage estimated at $250,000, the statement said.
