“One-of-a-kind” hillside home in Kessler Lake Estates hits the market for million

Turning off West Colorado Boulevard in Oak Cliff, you’ll find yourself in Kessler Lake Estates – a tree-lined oasis that offers a sense of privacy, with only one entrance and exit for about 30 properties. In this collection of mid-century and contemporary homes, a 1956 residence designed by notable architects sits on 2.09 acres with a private lake. It’s being offered for $4 million.

718 Kessler Lake Drive was designed by architects Harold Prinz and LaVere Brooks for local car dealer Earl Hayes and his wife Alline. Some changes have been made over the years, but most of the original architectural and stylistic details remain. The home has gained acclaim over the years and has been featured in publications such as the Guide to Dallas Architecture by the American Institute of Architects And City and countrysaid broker Eugene Gonzalez of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate.

Gonzalez says the house is well-preserved. “It’s only had two owners in its 70 years, so it’s really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for someone to become a great steward of the property,” he says.

The built-in cupboards, the travertine and linoleum floors and the wood panelling are in their original condition. In the 1970s, the owners added an office and a winter garden.

Three living rooms each offer views of the property through large windows, and two of the living rooms have fireplaces. The kitchen, which combines top-of-the-line appliances with original design elements, includes three sinks and an ice maker, as well as a desk area and ample storage.

There are three bars; one of these has a wall panel that opens at the touch of a button to connect indoor and outdoor areas, allowing easy access for relaxing or entertaining by the pool. Another bar is located in the sitting area of the spacious master suite. The master bathroom is his and hers and includes separate toilets, vanities and sinks, as well as a shared shower and tub. All four bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.

The main house offers 6,416 square feet of space, and the property has even more to offer. Attached guest quarters offer another 665 square feet, while a detached storage room is 572 square feet. In addition, the home has three walk-out basements that offer another 1,252 square feet of storage and wine cellar space.

Balconies take full advantage of the property’s hillside location and private spring-fed lake. For residents or visitors, a three-car carport and three-car garage provide ample parking.
