Oregon nurse found dead after ‘unusual and disturbing’ disappearance, neighbor charged with murder

The body of an Oregon nurse who disappeared earlier this week has been found and her neighbor has been arrested and charged with murder, police said Saturday.

Beaverton Police officers responded to the home of 32-year-old Melissa Jubane at 1050 SW 160th Avenue in Beaverton on Wednesday to conduct a wellness check after she failed to report for her morning shift at St. Vincent Hospital, police said in a Facebook post Thursday.

Police searched Jubane’s home but were unable to locate her, saying her absence and lack of communication were “unusual and worrying.”

“Efforts by officers and family members to contact Melissa throughout the day were unsuccessful as her phone appeared to be turned off,” police said. “In addition, searches of Melissa’s bank and credit card records did not reveal any new information regarding her whereabouts.”

Following the investigation, one of Jubane’s neighbors, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert, was arrested and charged with murder, police said in an update Saturday.

Schubert has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held in the Washington County, Oregon, jail, according to online records. It is currently unclear if he has an attorney.

Jubane’s body was also recovered. Police have not released details about Schubert’s alleged involvement in Jubane’s murder, where her remains were found, or who found them.

“This is an active investigation,” police said. “While we recognize the significant interest and concern of the public, we must withhold further details to protect the integrity of the investigation.”

Beaverton police are asking anyone with information about Jubane’s death to call them at 503-526-2280.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the community members who helped us locate Melissa. Our deepest condolences go out to Melissa’s family, friends and colleagues,” police said.
