LIVE UPDATES

Boilermakers’ fifth drive | Purdue scores first touchdown

Oregon State’s dreams of a shutout are shattered. Purdue uses a quick two-play attack to score its first touchdown of the game. After a harmless run and a passing interference call, Hudson Card threw a beautiful 35-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline to tight end Max Klare. Jack Kane was beaten on the play. Oregon State’s lead has shrunk to 14-7.

Beavers’ fourth drive

The strong defense is in vain, as the Beavers fail to gain three yards on the next drive. OSU loses two yards in the series.

Boilermaker: Fourth drive

The Beavers defense was outstanding today and found a new way to stifle Purdue on this offensive drive. After the Boilermakers finally started to build some momentum and made several big gains – including a 28-yard run – the Beavers showed a little “bend but don’t break” in the red zone. OSU stopped a Purdue offensive attempt on third-and-one at the 12-yard line and then stopped another run on fourth-and-two at the 13-yard line, forcing a turnover on downs. OSU’s defense forced three turnovers and a punt on the Boilermakers’ four offensive drives in this game.

Beavers’ third drive | Beavers extend lead to 14-0

Oregon State capped a 12-play, 71-yard drive with the game’s first offensive touchdown. Anthony Hankerson scored the game-winning touchdown when he slotted in from 1 yard out to give the Beavers a 14-0 lead. The drive, which featured a nice mix of running and passing, was aided by a passing interference call on second-and-17 and included a pair of chunk plays – a 19-yard run by Hankerson and an 18-yard pass by Jeremiah Noga. Noga’s catch was particularly impressive. On third-and-10 at the Purdue 26-yard line, Gevani McCoy threw a perfect pass over the middle under pressure, hitting Noga on the run despite being covered by a defensive back. Noga caught the pass and was then hit hard by the safety. McCoy completed 2 of 4 passes for 21 yards and ran five times for 16 yards. Hankerson, meanwhile, ran eight times for 41 yards.

Third drive of the boilermaker

Another solid stand by Oregon State’s defense, forcing a three-and-out. Purdue managed just three yards and has 22 yards in three possessions so far.

Boilermakers’ second drive | OSU takes a 7-0 lead

It’s safe to say last week’s defensive woes are a thing of the past. On the first play of Purdue’s second drive, linebacker Zakaih Saez made a sensational interception return for a touchdown. The play began when quarterback Hudson Card caught a shotgun snap on first-and-10 and threw a quick pass to running back Reggie Love III in the right flat. Saez read the play beautifully and slapped the ball toward the ground with his left hand…or so it seemed. The ball went straight at Love, bounced off his calf/leg and bounced into the waiting arms of Seaz, who marched into the end zone and scored a 20-yard touchdown return. The Beavers defense has already forced two turnovers. OSU leads 7-0.

Second drive of the Beavers

OSU is 0 for 2. Gevani McCoy had a nice 10-yard run and Jam Griffin added a nine-yard run, but the Beavers come up empty on their second drive and are forced to punt for the second time. OSU, hurt by a sack, managed just 13 yards in six plays.

First advance of the boilermakers

Great field possession for Purdue…better defense by the Beavers. On third and 1 at the OSU 9-yard line, the Boilermakers give the ball to running back Devin Mockobee. He is met by Nikko Taylor, who forces a fumble that Thomas Collins recovers. After last week’s defensive lapse, the Beavers can score a key point on their first chance against Purdue.

First beaver drive

A bold decision by coach Trent Bray goes awry. After gaining nine yards on the first three plays, the Beavers decided to try to hold the ball on fourth down at the 28-yard line. But Gevani McCoy’s pass to Bryce Caufield on the sideline is incomplete, and the Boilermakers will take advantage with excellent field possession.

Purdue won the pregame coin toss and postponed the game until the second half. The Beavers will receive the opening kickoff.

PRE-GAME DETAILS

Both teams will be looking to put last weekend’s crushing losses to higher-ranked teams behind them. The Beavers lost 49-14 to 9th-ranked Oregon, while the Boilermakers lost 66-7 to 18th-ranked Notre Dame.

This is the third meeting between the programs and the first since 2021, when Purdue defeated the Beavers 30-21 in West Lafayette, Indiana.
