Over  million allocated for park improvements in Eastern Carolina

RALEIGH, NC (WITN) – Ten parks in Eastern Carolina are receiving state funding for improvements and accessibility measures.

The governor’s office announced that parks across the state will receive $17.9 million in grants, with $4 million of that going to parks in the east. These funds come from the Parks and Creation Trust Fund (PARTF), which was approved in a meeting on August 23.

“These awards through the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund and the Accessible Parks Grant will have a tremendous impact on communities across North Carolina by creating more parks, more trails and more accessible recreation opportunities,” said Governor Cooper.

The following county parks receive grants from PARTF:

  • Hyde County: Brandon Marshall Ball Field Complex – $500,000
  • Pitt County: Pitt County Office Park Recreation Complex – $468,750
  • Halifax County: 4-H Rural Life Center Entrepreneurship Center – $421,537

The following park projects will receive accessibility grants:

  • Greenville: Woodlawn Park Improvement Project – $500,000
  • Chowan County: Bennett’s Millpond Park (Phase 1) – $500,000
  • Williamston: Soccer Field Renovation Project – $87,021
  • Pitt County: Lake Glenwood Public Park – $479,166
  • Winterville: Accessible access to Winterville Recreation Park – $473,948
  • Wallace: Clement Park – Accessibility Improvements and Inclusive Playground – $400,000
  • Edenton: Morgan Park Accessibility Project – $391,437
