OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY, AUGUST 28 – Resources, support, music, food and more at Blue Heron French Cheese Co.

Tillamook County proudly presents its third annual International Overdose Awareness Day on Wednesday, August 28th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blue Heron French Cheese Company in Tillamook.
Join us for an evening of remembrance and support with live music, resources and support, free t-shirts, and a free dinner for the first 100 attendees. This event is part of the world’s largest campaign to end overdoses (International Overdose Awareness Day is August 31st). We honor those we have lost and stand with the families and friends left behind. Learn about overdose prevention options, nalaxone/Narcan education, and local programs that offer help and hope.
Let us raise awareness together and create a future without the tragedy of overdose.

One life lost is one too many – the Oregon Department of Health estimates that 5 Oregonians die from opioid overdoses each week. In 2021, 548 Oregonians died from unintentional opioid overdoses, up from 462 deaths in 2020 (Oregon DOJ https://buff.ly/3PiQNTs). Unintentional opioid overdoses are preventable.
Today and every day, we mourn the lives lost and recognize the systemic and policy failures that contribute to those losses. We seek to continue transforming health care to meet the needs of our community through harm reduction and needle exchange programs. For drug users, helping them prevent overdoses and adopt safer use practices is a proven step toward hope, healing, and health.
