Overtime is still a pointless time for Nebraska Football

Overtime is still a pointless time for Nebraska Football

Firing blanks in overtime has been an unfortunate habit for the Huskers since 2015, and that trend continued Friday night in their 31-24 loss to Illinois.

For the eighth consecutive game, Nebraska failed to win in overtime. They couldn’t score a point. They didn’t even manage a first down.

All of this was documented last year after the Huskers’ OT loss at Wisconsin, but now there are some numbers to update. They won’t be any easier to digest.

The Huskers have now played 27 overtime plays in this phase and have achieved a net minus of 11 yards. They have thrown almost as many interceptions (4) as completions (6). No run went over three yards.

Other composite numbers:

Before the current eight-game losing streak, Nebraska was 8-1 in overtime games; now it is 8-9. The Huskers’ last overtime win came in 2014 at Iowa in Bo Pelini’s final game as head coach.

Below are summary statistics from the eight-game streak of unsuccessful overtime wins. Scroll down to see Nebraska’s offensive plays and links to all 17 of the Huskers’ overtime games.
