Owner of Cousin’s BBQ opens upscale restaurant in Cowtown

If you enjoy the taste of fresh seasonal fare in a chic mid-mod setting, then The Mont, a New American style restaurant, is for you. Expected to open in the winter, this new upscale dining concept is the brainchild of Jeff Payne, owner of Cousin’s BBQ, and Jason Cross, vice president of Cousin’s.

Located at 3729 Saint Amand Circle, just outside the Monserrat neighborhood on Fort Worth’s west side, the concept is all about elevating the dining experience with the expertise of Chef Michael Duff, who comes from Eddie V’s Fort Worth.

Although he started as an assistant chef at Eddie V’s in 2010, Duff has contributed to many local menus throughout the Fort Worth culinary scene for over a decade.

“Our approach is refined traditional cuisine inspired by seasonality, using familiar ingredients, modern techniques and global influences,” says Duff. “The menu will really be based on what produce, meats and seafood are in season and available at that time, so it will be constantly evolving.”

This changing menu features dishes such as handmade pasta, Wagyu steaks and seafood.

“I’ve long wanted to open an upscale, chef-driven concept in the Fort Worth area and when we saw this space near the Montserrat neighborhood, I knew this was the right place,” Payne says in a statement. “It’s the perfect setting for a beautiful dining experience inspired by seasonal, fresh ingredients, world travel, nostalgic favorites and our Texas roots in a timeless setting.”

The restaurant itself is inspired by the mid-century modern aesthetic of the late ’50s and early ’60s, using mahogany, leather and mood lighting, all designed by Fort Worth-based firm Maven.

“We hope the community is very proud to say this concept is in their backyard while also being a destination for travelers in the area,” says Payne. “We look forward to adding to Fort Worth’s fine dining landscape while also being an accessible gathering place for the neighborhood.”
