INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton was courtside again Wednesday night to watch the Indiana Fever, but this time it was different. The Fever hosted the Los Angeles Sparks in the first game since Caitlin Clark and her team clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday night.

Both the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream lost on Tuesday, and those two teams are eighth and ninth in the standings. Those losses secured Indiana a playoff spot for the first time since 2016. The Fever are 17-16 and have been on a roll since the Olympic break.

“I think we have the type of team that can win and advance,” Clark said of her team’s participation in the postseason.

The Fever have been one of the WNBA’s best offensive teams and have been winning since early July. Clark recently set a career-high against the Sky, while guard Kelsey Mitchell has been in top form for over two months.

Fever games have become a regular occurrence for Haliburton, who has attended many this year, including one with Pacers forward Obi Toppin.

“Hope you all see what 22 is doing at Gainbridge,” Haliburton tweeted earlier this season.

Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle was in Dallas when the Fever defeated the Dallas Wings. He was impressed by Clark’s dominance in the NCAA ranks and got to know her up close in the city where he coached for years.

Clark and the Fever led the Sparks in the fourth quarter on Wednesday. A win would help them stay in the race for a top-five spot, but they are certainly eligible for the postseason.
