Marcel Hug, who won four gold medals in Tokyo, has so far had to settle for two silver and one bronze medal, is comfortably in the lead in the men’s T54 marathon. Second is Tomoki Suzuki from Japan, third is Jin Hua from China and fourth is David Weir from Great Britain, but none of them has the slightest chance of catching the leader.

According to LEXI, the T12 classification is “for runners with visual impairment. Their vision is limited to a radius of less than five degrees and/or the ability to detect a moving object at a distance of one meter.”

And T54 “is designed for wheelchair users whose bodies have full functional capacity but who have moderate to severe leg mobility or have lost their legs. All generate power through the full range of body and arm movements, allowing good acceleration from the start and very responsive maneuvering during the race.”
