Parker McCollum dedicates himself to the traditional Texan sound in his rousing anthem

Parker McCollumThe single, which he released on Friday (September 13), focuses on his characteristic, traditional-sounding country vocals.

The Texas-born artist wrote “What Kinda Man” with Natalie Hemby And Jeremy Spillman. The rousing, honky-tonk-worthy anthem was produced by Frank Liddell And Eric MasseThe new father, who welcomed baby No. 1 with his wife last month, said “What Kinda Man” takes him back to his childhood in Texas and “feels like home.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to share this new music with the world, especially this new single ‘What Kinda Man,'” McCollum said in a statement. “Lately, I’ve been going back to that sound and roots that I started with. I think this new song is my way of rekindling that and creating something that feels like home for me and my fans. I hope the world loves it.”

McCollum’s latest album is Never enougha 15-track record released in May 2023. This collection included McCollum’s blistering single “Burn It Down,” as well as “Stoned,” “Handle On You,” “Speed,” “I Ain’t Going Nowhere,” and more. McCollum also appeared as the sole duet partner on fellow Texan Miranda LambertThe newly released album by Postcards from Texasand serves as a reference to the Lone Star State.

McCollum is preparing to take the stage at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, where he is also nominated in the Cover Song category for his rendition of John Mayer‘s “Perfectly Lonely.” The People’s Choice Country Awards will air live on NBC and Peacock on Thursday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. McCollum is also nominated for Song of the Year (“Burn It Down”) at the 58th CMA Awards in November. That show is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20. It will air live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT and will be available on Hulu the following day.
