Participants of a Trump rally report mysterious eye injuries

Six people sitting behind former President Donald Trump at a rally in Tuscon, Arizona, last week suffered strange eye injuries, including one who says she was nearly blind the next day, according to a report by local station News 4 Tucson.

One of the victims, anti-abortion activist Mayra Rodriguez, told the broadcaster that her eyes began to hurt after she left the rally last Thursday.

“As soon as we left and stepped outside, my eyes burned,” she said.

Rodriguez eventually went to the emergency room for treatment, where staff reportedly told her it looked like she had been sprayed with something.

“The emergency room staff, from the nurse to the physician assistant, asked if you were sure you hadn’t been sprayed with something. Your symptoms looked like you had been sprayed with something,” she told N4T.

When the news channel contacted her the day after the rally, she reported that she was almost blind and that it “hurts a lot to open my eyes.” Doctors were ultimately unable to determine the cause, but her condition slowly improved over the following days.

Rodriguez thought it might be the result of an allergy until she learned that five other people in her department reported similar symptoms., The protesters sitting on the other side of Trump seemed fine, N4T reported.

A brother and sister who also had symptoms spoke to the news channel.

“It just kept getting worse, my eyes were watering a lot, my nose started running, then I felt my face turn all red and my throat felt like it was burning and it just kept getting worse from there,” the sister said, while the brother described the pain as “unbearable” and said his eyes were “red as hell.”

The Trump campaign told victims and News4 that the incident was under investigation. The Secret Service said it had not been informed of the reported injuries but was not aware of any threat to the former president at the rally.
