As usual, the Patriots called heads and delayed the coin toss, so their defense was on the field first against Joe Burrow and Co. The New England defense held firm and Keion White scored a strip sack on the second attempt before Burrow’s pass to Mike Gesicki missed the stick on the third attempt.

On the Patriots’ first offensive drive of the season, they relied on their running game, as Rhamondre Stevenson had three carries – one of them 14 yards from a jumbo formation for a first down. Before a 3rd-and-8 just before the halfway line, Brissett’s pass was dropped by KJ Osborn, forcing a punt.

The Bengals started with Bryce Baringer’s first punt of the season just outside their own 10-yard line. New England’s run defense held firm and forced a 3rd-and-6, with Marcus Jones then stopping a completion just short of the uprights.
