The Patriots won the coin toss and punted the ball, allowing Aaron Rodgers and the Jets offense to get on the field first. After gaining two first downs, a penalty from Anfernee Jennings and a sack from Deatrich Wise pulled the Jets back. On 3rd-and-19, Rodgers’ quick pass was completed just short of the uprights.

New England’s first drive was short, as they quickly scored three wins and no outs on three plays where they had little chance.

The Jets’ next drive started similarly with two first downs. New England’s run defense then suffered the loss of Ja’Whaun Bentley and additionally Jahlani Tavai was penalized for unnecessary roughness, putting them in the red zone. Rodgers finally hit Allen Lazard with a quick hit, who broke free of Alex Austin and carried the ball 10 yards for a score. (Patriots 0 : 7 Jets)

New England’s next attack began with a block for DeMario Douglas, who turned the block over in the middle of the field and still only gained one yard. Completions to Ja’Lynn Polk and Hunter Henry then gave the Patriots their first first down of the night. The attack then stalled when Brissett missed a free Austin Hooper on play-action and was sacked on fourth down.
