KINGSFORD – A new gazebo will be built at Ford Addition Park after the city purchased a kit from Amish Country for $25,181.

City Manager Mike Stelmaszek said it will take about six to eight weeks for the kit to arrive, which includes all the materials needed for construction. The city will seek bids for that as well as for the installation of an electrical package.

The pavilion will be equipped with lighting and electrical outlets. A paved path will be laid for disabled access.

Funding for the project was provided by Rick and Marty Lagina of “The Curse of Oak Island”, who each donated $50,000.

They are graduates of Kingsford High School and served as Grand Marshals of the Centennial Parade in August 2023.

The pavilion is in memory of their parents, George and Ann Lagina, long-time Kingsford residents who passed away in 2010. Originally, the money was to be donated to build a pavilion, but they decided to build a gazebo instead.

The cement slab for the 20-by-28-foot gazebo was installed by Shad Brown Excavating and Snow Removal of Niagara, Wisconsin, for $4,932.

After the pavilion is completed, any remaining funds will be used to purchase pirate-themed playground equipment for the park.

“The Curse of Oak Island” is a reality television series that premiered on History Channel in 2015. It follows a team of treasure hunters led by the Laginas and their search for a legendary treasure on Oak Island off the coast of Nova Scotia.
