Paw Paw Restaurant claims they were evicted without reason

It’s annoying when a locally owned restaurant that people value has to close, but it happens all the time, especially since the pandemic. One restaurant in Paw Paw that people have long loved is Cancun Mexican Restaurant, which recently announced that it was reportedly vacating unexpectedly and for no reason.

In a Facebook post on August 12, they explained that there have been many changes in Papa Village and that the restaurant will have to close at the end of August. This is a challenge that has shaken the owners and it has taken them a few days to process it and put into words what exactly happened.

Long story short…we were evicted. We did nothing wrong. We paid on time every month, we took care of everything related to the building…but still, Dave gave us less than 30 days to clear out and leave. He heard the Cooper Grille was closing and took the opportunity to try to open his own breakfast place…good for him. We wish him the best, but are definitely shocked and heartbroken.

Despite being kicked out, the owners continued to show their love for the community that contributed to their success:

We have always loved Paw Paw. When we had the opportunity to rent from Billy Key (the owner of the building) it was the chance of a lifetime. He was always very kind and generous to us. We will always be grateful to him.

But were they adequately notified?

In the comments section of the post, Jessecca Bowler claims that the restaurant WAS actually informed in a timely manner and that they are misinforming the public as the fault lies with them:

The reason for your eviction is because the restaurant refused to sign a new lease because they were already looking for a new location. They were offered a new lease back in February and refused to sign it. The Copper Grill closing had absolutely nothing to do with it, that was simply a timing difference!! Again!! Cancun was given a full 30 day notice.
