Philadelphia Phillies have officially placed their breakout star on the IL

It seemed only a matter of time before the Philadelphia Phillies had to take this step.

Alec Bohm has been out of the roster since August 29, when he strangely left the game after spraining his hand on the first pitch of the game. Now, day-to-day, the decision has been made to officially place their shooting star on the 10-day injured list, according to a team press release.

Philadelphia fans and the organization as a whole have been waiting for the performance Bohm has delivered this season since he was selected No. 3 in the 2018 draft.

The former top talent experienced some ups and downs during his time with the team after his debut in 2020, but the third baseman seems to have finally found his rhythm.

Bohm earned his first All-Star Game nomination this year with incredible performance at the plate and currently leads all of Major League Baseball with 44 doubles. His slash line of .290/.343/.462 and OPS+ of 123 are career full-season bests, and he was on pace to top 100 RBIs in a single season for the first time in the major leagues.

The Phillies suspect a strained left hand and have placed his stay on the injured list retroactively to September 3. This means the earliest he can return is September 13, assuming he can recover in that time.

To take his place, Philadelphia has called up Buddy Kennedy. This will be his second appearance with the club after he did not play in a game from August 26-27.
