Pho 999 restaurant moves to a new location in south Reno

The Vietnamese restaurant plans to locate at the former site of Rusty Taco and Nu Yalk Pizza near WinCo Foods.

Get ready to slurp bowls of piping hot noodles, South Reno pho lovers.

Popular Vietnamese restaurant Pho 999 at Franktown Corners on Kietzke Lane north of Linden Street is moving south this fall.

Reno-based Reddit users first caught wind of Pho 999’s plans and began talking about it online after the restaurant posted signs announcing the move. The signs remained prominently displayed on the door and windows during the busy lunch hour on Thursday as customers flocked to the restaurant.

“Coming soon in fall 2024,” read the sign in bright orange.

The sign listed 9780 S. Virginia St. as the address of the new location, which was most recently used by restaurant chain Rusty Taco for 18 months before closing early last year. Before Rust Taco, the space was also used by Nu Yalk Pizza.

The sign also stated that the current location would be closing on September 24th.

A restaurant employee confirmed that Pho 999 will continue to be the same restaurant that its regulars love, with “the same menu, the same everything.” However, the move means Pho 999 will get a newer building with more space to accommodate the hordes of customers who line up outside the restaurant during busy lunch and dinner hours.

Pho 999 has built a loyal following with its pho noodles and selection of Vietnamese dishes like spring rolls, stir-fries, and flame-roasted pork, chicken, or beef. The restaurant was also named one of food influencer David Nguyen’s top three favorite Asian restaurants in Reno on Instagram, alongside Kwok’s Bistro and Thai spot Moo Dang.

The move several miles south has caused dismay among some regulars in a Reddit post online.

“I work two blocks away and it’s so convenient, and it’s hands down my favorite pho,” said one Redditor. “Do I have to walk all the way there now?”

Others, however, celebrated the upcoming step.

“This is much closer to my house. Yay!” said another Redditor.

In the meantime, customers can enjoy pho and other Vietnamese dishes at the current location on Kietzke Lane and Grove Street for another month.
