HAMLET – The Trip Rogers Band made its first appearance in the Boxcar Concert Series on August 23.

The three-piece band took the stage at Main Street Park with a setlist consisting primarily of classic rock, with renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, Tom Petty and The Band.

The band has previously performed at the Ellerbe Strawberry Festival and on the porch of the Ellerbe Springs Inn, and Rogers has performed solo in Hamlet at the Seaboard Festival.

Frontman and guitarist Rogers lives in Mint Hill, but he and his wife own land in Ellerbe.

The evening temperatures were mild for the end of August and therefore ideal for the band and the audience.

Across the street, several food trucks have been set up for the city’s TGIFridays on Main, which takes place on the second and fourth Fridays. The Boxcar Concert Series’ free concerts take place on the fourth Friday from April through October.

Two more performances are planned for the 2024 season.

Local band Vagabond – featuring guitarist John Baker, bassist Patrick Razon and drummer Anakin White – will take the stage on September 27, filling in for Oero, which was originally scheduled.

Rockingham native Erik Hawks and the Hard Luck Band will close the series on October 25.
