Pleasant Hills Atria’s is closing, but a new restaurant will open in its place

Pleasant Hills Atria’s is closing, but a new restaurant will open in its place

Another Atria restaurant is closing. The Pleasant Hills location will become a Juniper Grill in October.

Atria’s Facebook post says a new chapter is about to begin. The restaurant will remain in operation until it is handed over to Juniper Grill, a sister company. Atria’s last day is September 1.

“We greatly appreciate your loyalty to Atria’s during the many, many changes we are experiencing. Please know that you are important to us. All the relationships, friendships, parties and family reunions we have celebrated together,” the post said.

The majority of employees remain in the company.

The plan is to reopen on October 1st at Juniper Grill, located in Bill Green’s Shopping Center.

Patrick McDonnell, CEO of Restaurant Holdings, the parent company of Atria’s and Juniper Grill, said the demographics in the area are changing and diners are looking for more wine and spirits offerings and updated menu items.

Atria’s in Pleasant Hills was a top-performing restaurant, he said, and that’s why they decided to convert it rather than sell it.

“Guests who were 10 years old 20 years ago are now 30 and looking for something different,” McDonnell said. “We’re excited about this new chapter.”

Other Juniper Grill locations include Peters Township – the first opened in 2010 – Murrysville, Cranberry and a restaurant in North Carolina. He said they also plan to continue expanding Juniper Grill outside of Western Pennsylvania.

Juniper Grill “offers an affordable, high-quality dining experience specializing in American cuisine with a fresh California flair,” it says on its website.

The menu includes soups and salads, burgers, seafood, steaks, brisket and chicken, as well as tacos and several sides.

Atria’s in O’Hara was sold in 2023 and is now called Tepache Mexican Kitchen & Bar.

McDonnell said there will be no major changes at the Atria’s in Peters and Murrysville at this time. The Mt. Lebanon location will be renamed from Atria’s to 1930, the year the original restaurant opened. That change will take place sometime in October. The eatery will also expand its wine and spirits menu, such as adding more bourbon options, as well as a wider variety of food options.

“In this business, you have to keep doing things to stay relevant,” McDonnell said. “You have to change with the times. We’ve found that Juniper Grill appeals to everyone, young and old. We’ll see how things evolve, but you have to keep trying new things.”
