Pokémon Red Rescue Team begins with a personality test that determines which Pokémon you will be. A total of fifty questions are selected and your personality is determined by the results of this test.




If you don’t like the results and want to play as a different Pokémon, you can quit the game and repeat the test as many times as necessary to get the Pokémon you want. After you get your Pokémon, you’ll have a choice between some of the remaining options to become your partner. Here are the best options you can choose.

Best starter Pokémon in the Red Rescue Team

The decision you make for your Pokémon and partner is final. While you can later recruit other Pokémon to join your rescue team, you and your partner are the focus of every mission until you win the game. In total, there are 16 potential Pokémon you can get, some from the first generations starting trios, and your partner is chosen from a list of options from some of the remaining Pokémon, though you can’t choose a Pokémon of the same type as your own.

Most of the bosses in the game are partially flying types, including the final bossmaking Pikachu’s electric attacks very useful in the game’s toughest battles. He also learns Quick Attack early on, which allows him to attack around corners and from behind in a hallway. Pikachu is by far the best starter and should be in every party to make it easier to play through.

Charmander

Overall, Charmander high damage with his fire attacksparticularly against one of the more difficult bosses found in the mid-game that has a weakness to fire. Charmander also learns Smokescreen, which is great against bosses to protect your party while you focus on dealing damage.

Fierygel

Similar to Charmander, Fire-type Pokémon are good options in this game. Cyndaquil’s moveset differs only slightly from Charmander’s, with many of the same options in the early game. Towards the mid-game Cyndaquil learns better fire attacks sooneralong with an early quick attack to provide more damage-focused options early on.

Squirtle

Squirtle has better water attacks throughout the game and can use Bite in addition to the normal basic attacks to add some variety to its movements. Squirtle also learns Protects and has good overall defense statisticsmaking it a great option for those worried about their survival in a dungeon.

Due to the many type matches throughout the game, choosing a Grass-type Pokémon will result in a more difficult gameplay.

While there are many starting options that are only available to the player and cannot be a partner, all of the above options can be the player or partner, allowing them to fill out or form any party they desire. Red Rescue Team doesn’t need a perfect party to win, but If you select the above options, the game will be much easier.
