Police chased ‘wanted’ armed suspect through Walmart in Florida: authorities

In Florida, police officers chased a wanted man, allegedly armed with a stolen gun, through the aisle of a Walmart store. The pursuit lasted several minutes before the suspect was arrested.

On Sunday, 36-year-old Joshua Comer was arrested by Deputy Daniel Boucher of the Marion Country Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with extortion, assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, concealed carrying of a firearm, cyber sexual battery, resisting arrest without the use of violence, criminal damage to property and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a statement on the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.

The man’s vehicle was found by Marion County officers in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Dunnellon, and when they entered the store, they spotted the suspect with a shopping cart in the produce section, the post said.

The sheriff’s office says Comer quickly noticed officers and ran through the store, exiting through a side exit. It also says that as Comer was leaving the store, he let go of the shopping cart he was pushing, causing it to strike a vehicle, causing $500 in damage.

Bodycam footage released by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office shows officers running past the produce in the store, through a side door and through storage rooms into the parking lot, where they catch up with the suspect and grab the shopping cart he had let go of.

After his arrest by officers, a search revealed, according to authorities, that the suspect was also in possession of a stolen shotgun that he had hidden in the bushes in the Walmart parking lot and that he had two clear pipes that tested positive for fentanyl.

Before the chase through Walmart, Comer was reportedly wanted after a person reported that Comer had sent her text messages asking her to send him money, according to the sheriff’s office.

When she refused, authorities say Comer threatened to distribute sexually explicit photos of her online. Two days later, he sent an explicit video to two of her friends via Facebook Messenger.

While Deputy Boucher continued his investigation into the report, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office discovered that the Levy County Sheriff’s Office had requested that Marion County authorities be on the lookout for Comer as he was suspected of robbing a gas station in the area en route to Marion County.

Comer was taken to the Marion County Jail and is accused of assaulting a police officer during his booking. He remains in custody without bail.
