Wenatchee Valley Fire Department Chief Brian Brett said the fire burned on both the upper and lower decks of the home.

“It started on the upper deck, burned through, fell to the lower deck and caused both decks to catch fire,” Brett said.

When police arrived at the scene, the homeowner was reportedly unaware of the fire on the upper and lower decks.

“Police opened the door and announced their presence, which alerted the occupant,” Brett said. “They responded with a garden hose and fire extinguishers and were able to extinguish the fire on the upper deck, while the fire department arrived, laid a line and was able to extinguish the fire on the lower deck.”

Brett says police had fire extinguishers when they entered the house.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Brett said there was no obvious cause of the fire, such as an outdoor grill being left on. The fire chief is continuing to investigate.
