Police went to Bloomfield High School to investigate a report of a student with a gun. They said they did not find a weapon, the school is on lockdown and they are continuing to search the area.

Bloomfield police said officers on scene made contact with the suspected student, who was not found to be in possession of a weapon.

“The suspect student was not in possession of a weapon at the time officers made contact with the student,” police said in a statement.

School officials said the school was placed on lockdown around 12:45 p.m. and that students and staff are safe while police search the grounds to ensure campus security.

The lockdown will remain in effect until the investigation is complete and the campus is deemed safe.

“We understand the concern that this situation

cause, but we work closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our school

community,” interim Superintendent Bethany Silver said in a statement.

The school district has also activated its crisis response team to support students and staff.

Police said officers and school security are currently searching the area to ensure no weapon has been hidden.
