One person was shot in an incident involving police officers at a mobile home park in Tempe Friday morning, Tempe police officials posted on social media.

Officers responded to a shooting in the area of Southern Avenue and 48th Street in The Meadows mobile home park, according to details posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) shortly before 8 a.m.

Around 7 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call from a woman who believed her 55-year-old son had shot her husband, authorities said.

Officials said the woman gave authorities a description of her son and reported she last saw her husband “lying on the floor and unconscious” in their home.

When officers arrived at the scene, they surrounded the house and ordered residents to leave the building.

Shortly thereafter, the son left the house “with a gun in his hand,” officials said.

After briefly holding the gun to his head, the son then pointed the weapon at the officers.

In response, a veteran officer in the agency’s patrol division fired his weapon at the son, officials said.

After the son received immediate medical attention, he was taken to the hospital.

Authorities then entered the house and found the husband – who officials said was the son’s stepfather – dead in the kitchen.

Tempe police are now treating the incident as a homicide, while Mesa police are investigating the officer-involved shooting portion of the incident.

Authorities are still investigating what led to the shooting.

“While this is still a very active crime scene, we can confirm that no officers were injured and that the suspect involved in the police-involved shooting is an adult male,” officials posted an update on social media at around 9:15 a.m.
