Police say Pokemon card store had over $1 million worth of meth

Police say Pokemon card store had over million worth of meth

On August 19, Hong Kong police raided a Pokémon Trading Card Game store where they allegedly found 16 kg of methamphetamine in the designated “employee-only area.”

As reported by the South China Morning Post, this Pokémon trading card store in the residential Hung Hom district hosted tournaments and trading trips where groups of children and teenagers played the popular trading card game together. Although police confirmed that none of these children or teenagers were involved in the purchase of the drugs in question, this came as a surprise to Hong Kong Narcotics Bureau Inspector Liong Chun-Hin.

“Keeping such a large amount of narcotics in a place that teenagers and children can visit is irresponsible and scandalous behavior, which also increases the possible risk of teenagers and children accidentally coming into contact with illegal drugs,” Chun-Hin told local media.

Chun-Hin explains that the Pokémon Trading Card Game store upstairs had been used as a storage space for over a month before police were able to determine its location.

In April of last year, The Pokemon Company spoke of a printing company employee who allegedly stole a stack of rare cards from the Fusion Strike set to sell to his local game store. According to The Pokemon Company, this is considered to be the “largest buyback of stolen property to date” in the history of the trading card game.
