The Keg opened in 1979 at the corner of 10th Street and Bahnson Avenue in Sioux Falls. It remained at that location until 1995, when it moved to 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue.

Five years later, the restaurant moved to larger premises in the same shopping center on the east side.

In 2005, The Keg opened a location on the west side at the corner of 57th Street and Marion Road.

The east side restaurant closed in 2010, the west side location followed in 2012.

After a three-year absence from the Sioux Falls restaurant scene, The Keg returned in 2015, opening at its current location on West 12th Street, later adding the Arrowhead Parkway restaurant.

Over the years, The Keg has served nearly 14 million pieces of chicken.
