Who is “The Golden Bachelorette”?

Joan Vassos, a former Golden Bachelor, is ABC’s first lead actress in the first-ever Golden Bachelorette.

Vassos, 61, a private school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, was one of the top contestants for the show following the success of “The Golden Bachelor,” USA TODAY exclusively revealed in February.

Vassos spent a romantic evening with Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner on last year’s show and became a fan favorite after her heartbreaking decision to leave The Golden Bachelor. Vassos left because her daughter had a health issue that required her to be cared for in the real world.

During her time on Turner’s season, Vassos had spoken passionately about her husband John, who died of pancreatic cancer after 32 years of marriage. “He was the husband who always made me feel safe and appreciated,” Vassos wrote on Instagram in January.
