What ultimately became another debacle for Ohio State was not without problems.

Marshall was able to make some offensive improvements through his air raid scheme and quarterback running game, scoring the first two touchdowns the Buckeyes defense allowed all season. The special teams had two kickoffs go out of bounds and would have suffered a botched punt and a turnover had it not been for a penalty that ended the game.

Overall, though, Ohio State was dominant in the running game, explosive offense and some other areas of defense. Day spoke to the media after the game about that and the status of defensive tackle Tyleik Williams.

  • On the up-tempo offense: “We wanted to play fast today, we felt that was the right approach. … We don’t always play like that because we don’t want to put the defense in a bad position. … But I thought we had a good tempo on offense.”

  • For Tyleik Williams, it’s “day by day” after missing the game due to injury.

  • Day called Ohio State’s out-of-bounds kickoffs “completely ridiculous” and felt it was necessary to change the kicker because there were too many of them.

  • On defense: “Marshall has done a good job with his style of play, where you spread the opponent, plus one, and run with the quarterback. … There are going to be a lot of things we see on film that we’re not going to be happy with. … We did some good things.”

  • Day was upset about his unsportsmanlike conduct. “I guess I shouted too loudly.”

  • Day praised Ohio State’s perimeter blocking and running game, and felt it gave the offense a lot of horizontal expansion. “I thought the running backs ran hard, and when you have the ability to pull it off with Will, it just changes the numbers. … I thought Chip (Kelly) called another good game.”

  • On the running backs: “I have to give credit to all three of them. They all have special skills. … They don’t care who gets the credit.”

  • Day feels Will Howard is gaining more confidence and security on offense, and he has been pleased with the quarterback’s decisions.

  • On Quinshon Judkins: “I just appreciate how hard he plays. … He has a great attitude. You can coach Quinshon hard. … That’s a great sign for someone who has been out of the program for several years.”

  • Day felt that the 3-technique defensive tackle position in place of Williams was a “mixed picture.”

  • Day is open to making the relationship between Tegra Tshabola and Austin Siereveld more fluid at the right guard position.

Will Howard, Quinshon Judkins, Jordan Hancock, Lathan Ransom and Emeka Egbuka also met with reporters after the game and you can see what they had to say in the videos below.
