Javier Aguirre began his third term as Mexican coach on a positive note as his team ended a two-game winless streak on Saturday.

With three goals scored, the team scored as many goals as in the previous four games combined and won by three goals for the second time this year.

Mexico have conceded just one goal in their last four competitive matches and have won all of their matches this year in the United States.

It has been over a year since this team last won consecutive games, but they won the trophy by winning three consecutive knockout triumphs at the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

They enter this competition with an eight-game winless streak in all competitions against North American opponents stretching back over three years.

The last time they faced the Canucks in the United States was at the 2021 Gold Cup, when El Tri scored a goal deep in second-half stoppage time to claim a 2-1 victory in that semifinal at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

It took over 65 years, but the Canadians finally managed to win against their arch-rivals from the USA. Their manager Jesse March to correctly predict the result in a pre-match interview.

The Canadian press was responsible for some turnovers on Saturday, with the visitors taking advantage of two turnovers by the USA while also withstanding a strong offensive from the Americans in the second half.

In the last two games, this team has been able to make better use of its chances in the attacking third, scoring a total of four goals, two more than in the first six games under the former Leeds United boss.

Under Marsch, this team has never lost when scoring the first goal; it has done so three times since the former U.S. assistant coach took the helm.

On Tuesday, the Canucks have a chance to win two consecutive games within 90 minutes in the CONCACAF Nations League for the first time since three consecutive wins between March and June 2023.

Canada remains undefeated in its last five games on American soil in all competitions against CONCACAF nations, winning two of those matches.

The last time they triumphed against El Tri outside Canada was in the quarterfinals of the 2000 Gold Cup, when Les Rouges equalized with seven minutes left and scored a golden goal two minutes into extra time at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
