Princeton Tennis Classic to be held September 17-18 – Trentonian

WEST WINDSOR – Calling all tennis players who want to have fun while competing and contributing to the growth of the tennis community, don’t miss the 40th annual Princeton Tennis Classic on September 17 and 18.

A pre-tournament dinner and professional exhibition will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the Eve Kraft Community Tennis Center in West Windsor. A seven-round tournament will be held at Mercer County Park on Sept. 18. In the event of rain, play will be indoors at the Eve Kraft Center.

“This is an opportunity to play good tennis for a good cause,” said PTP Tennis Director John-Michael Zafirelis.

The Princeton Tennis Program (PTP) is a 70-year-old nonprofit organization committed to making tennis affordable and accessible to all.

The Princeton Tennis Classic is PTP’s only fundraiser and proceeds go to fund the organization’s programs, such as tennis for children and young adults with autism, financial aid, scholarships and discounted senior programs, to name a few, as well as community programs.
Tennis programs and lessons year-round at Eve Kraft, Princeton’s Community Park and Hamilton’s Veterans Park. Some of the area’s best high school players have been trained by PTP.

“The Classic was a great opportunity to raise awareness of tennis as a grassroots sport in New Jersey,” said Zafirelis, who proudly noted that PTP has a long history of working with organizations like the Special Olympics and local schools to make tennis accessible to those who would otherwise not have access to the sport.

The Pre-Tournament Dinner begins on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and offers the opportunity to watch the PTP professional division together with other tennis enthusiasts while enjoying a dinner and ceremony.

On Wednesday, tournament competitions will take place from 9am to 11:30am for Men’s Divisions A and B, from 11:30am to 2pm for Women’s Divisions A and B, and from 1:45pm to 4:15pm for Mixed Divisions A and B and Senior. All players will receive a commemorative T-shirt with a special 70th Anniversary PTP logo.

Cost is $110 per person for dinner and tournament, $85 for tournament only, and $45 for dinner only. Participants can play in a second division for an additional $30.

The registration deadline is Friday, September 13th.

“This is just a great way for people who enjoy tennis to socialize and have fun while supporting local recreational tennis,” said Zafirelis. “People have enjoyed this so much that they have made friends after the tournament or dinner. This has helped PTP continue its proud tradition of promoting health, wellness and good citizenship for all through the sport of tennis.”

There are also sponsorship opportunities. For more information or to register for the event, visit ptp.org by clicking on the “Events” link at the top of the page. If you have any questions, email [email protected].
