Prosecutor announces charges against ‘Memphis gangster’ for spectacular gun store break-in in 2023

SOUTHAVEN, Mississippi (WMC) – DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton says a 23-year-old “Memphis gangster” has been indicted on charges related to a high-profile break-in at a Southaven gun store and jewelry store that occurred over a year ago.

Surveillance video caught thieves robbing the Guns & Fine Jewelry store in Southaven on March 10, 2023.

Guyland Key of Memphis was arrested in Arkansas and faces charges in DeSoto County District Court on charges of firearms trafficking, burglary of a commercial building, conspiracy and grand larceny.

“This indictment sends a clear message: If you commit crimes from Memphis or anywhere else in DeSoto County, we will pursue you with every means possible,” said District Attorney Barton. “Because of Southaven’s outstanding police work, we will aggressively pursue Key and anyone else who conspired with him.”

According to the indictment, Key and four others – dressed in hoods, gloves and masks – stole more than 150 firearms and jewelry from the store.

They broke in and escaped within just three minutes.

Assistant District Attorney Gordon Shaw is prosecuting this case.
