  • Finding a PlayStation 3 Move Sharp Shooter for $6 at a thrift store brings nostalgia and joy to fans of this legendary gaming era.
  • Even though its heyday is over, the PlayStation Move accessory still reminds us of the innovative competition between gaming consoles.

A PlayStation fan was surprised to find a relic of the PS3 era on the toy shelves of a thrift store. It seems that the owners didn’t know what the object was or just wanted to get rid of the PS3 accessory as quickly as possible.

The PS3 era of the 2000s and 2010s was an interesting time for gamers. The PS3 launched in November 2006 and offered much improved graphics, new hardware features, and better online connectivity than its predecessor. However, the Wii launched just a week after the PS3. While the two couldn’t compete in terms of graphical fidelity, the Wii had something unique: motion controls. The Wii’s motion controls ended up being a big selling point, and Sony eventually developed their own version of the devices with the PlayStation Move controllers.

Deadpool game listed online for nearly $50,000

Due to the popularity of the latest Marvel film, used copies of the PS4 game Deadpool are being offered at outrageously high prices.

This particular thrift store find has its roots in that era of competition. Reddit user GodOfOnions2 spotted a PlayStation 3 Move Sharp Shooter for $6. The unit appears to be in good condition, with no obvious discoloration or damage. Without any knowledge of the PS3, it would likely just look like a simple plastic shooter toy for kids, albeit a rather lackluster one since it doesn’t fire anything. To use it, Move controllers and a PS3 are required, which obviously weren’t sold with the unique find at this particular store. The unit was also only compatible with select games, including Kill Zone 3, Dead space extraction, Socom4And Time Crisis: Devastating Storm.

PS3 fans remember Move controllers

While GodOfOnions2 initially left the Sharp Shooter behind, other fans seem to have been persuaded to buy it again. Several noted that they also got their own Sharp Shooter pretty cheaply, as most retailers don’t seem to recognize it without controllers attached. In all honesty, it’s basically just a piece of plastic without the added functionality of controllers attached. However, its unique design and harkening back to the PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 Gen 7 era of gaming seems to have excited many fans.

Thanks largely to the ingenuity of the Wii and the competitive spirit between game console manufacturers in the 2000s-2010s, motion controls are now a staple of gaming. Both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 have some form of motion control built into their controllers. Gyro controls also play a big role in virtual reality controllers these days. Although the PlayStation Move’s heyday is over, fans still look back fondly on that era when they make finds like this.
