The three-day weekend that marks the unofficial end of summer, Labor Day weekend, is upon us.
Although Labor Day means a three-day weekend for most, many service workers will go to work on Monday since most grocery stores and restaurants remain open on the federal holiday.
Here’s when most grocery stores in Florida open and close and what services will be unavailable on Labor Day.
Labor Day is always celebrated on the first Monday in September. This year, Labor Day falls on Monday, September 2nd.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day is “an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers.”

Which stores are open and closed on Labor Day in Florida?
Since it is one of eleven federal holidays, all government offices are closed on Labor Day, including the U.S. Postal Service. Banks are also closed.
However, most restaurants, fast food outlets and grocery stores will be open.
Is Publix open on Labor Day? When does Publix open?
Most Publix stores open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Some Publix stores regularly close at 9 p.m., but not many. Publix liquor stores open at 9 a.m. or 10 a.m., depending on the location.
Publix stores only close on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
When does Winn Dixie open?
Winn-Dixie grocery stores open at 7 a.m. daily, but Winn-Dixie pharmacies and wine and liquor services do not open until 9 a.m.

Most Target stores open at 8 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Some Target stores open at 7 a.m.
When does Walmart open?
Most Walmart stores open a full hour before Publix or Winn-Dixie, at 6 a.m. They close at 11 p.m.

Is Walmart still open 24 hours?
No. Walmart stores are no longer open 24 hours. Walmart’s 24-hour hours were put on hold in 2020 during the first COVID quarantine, and there are no plans to return to pre-pandemic hours.
Will Walmart Neighborhood Markets open at the same time as Walmart Supercenters?
Yes. Walmart Neighborhood Market hours are also 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
When does Aldi open?
