QB/WR Stacks for Week 1 at DraftKings

QB/WR Stacks for Week 1 at DraftKings

Ciaran Doyle reveals his top QB and WR stacks to consider for the Week 1 DraftKings fantasy football slate.

Week 1 is finally here. We’ve waited nearly seven months since the Chiefs beat the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. We now have 16 games to look forward to in Week 1, and there are plenty of QB/WR duos you’ll want in your fantasy football lineup for the DraftKings Week 1 main fantasy football slate.

The reason to stack a quarterback with his preferred wide receiver is that both players benefit from each completed pass, doubling the value of that play to your lineup. My strategy for these stacks will be to target duos facing subpar pass defenses. Below are my four favorite stacks for Sunday’s main slate.

This is a medium-risk play because we don’t yet know what Darnold will look like in the Vikings’ offense. However, there is a lot of upside potential at these salaries. Justin Jefferson is fully healthy for Week 1 and can have a monster day on any given Sunday regardless of who his quarterback is. Kevin O’Connell loves to step up the pass, and that was proven last season when the Vikings finished 5th in passing yards per game (256.4). I expect Darnold to look significantly better since his time with the Jets, and I think he will throw a ton of passing yards this season if his weapons stay healthy.

The Giants have struggled at the cornerback position all offseason and were anything but good in the passing game last year, ranking 19th in that category. I think this could be a big day for Darnold and Jefferson, and it might be the last time we can get them for such low salaries.

This is another QB/WR duo that receives relatively low salaries in Week 1. The connection between Geno Smith and DK Metcalf worked last season, as Metcalf had another 1,000+ yard season while also scoring eight touchdowns. For Smith, it was his second consecutive great season for the Seahawks, finishing with 3,600+ yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in just 15 games. If Geno can put together another solid season in 2024, I expect this duo to be firing on all cylinders.

This is a great matchup for them as they face a Broncos defense that was not good against passes last season, ranking just 23rd in passing yards. They were especially bad at pass defense on the road, allowing an average of 56.9 more passing yards per game than they did at home. I expect Geno Smith and the Seahawks offense to get off to a good start in Week 1 with a favorable matchup.

Baker Mayfield had a stellar year in his first season with the Buccaneers, throwing for over 4,000 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions. This offseason, he was rewarded for his outstanding play with a three-year contract worth up to $115 million. A big reason for his success in 2023 was his chemistry with Mike Evans. Evans finished the 10th consecutive season with at least 1,000 receiving yards, totaling 1,255 with 13 touchdowns.

In Week 1, the duo will face off against last season’s worst pass defense: the Washington Commanders. Washington allowed 262.2 yards per game through the air last season, which was last in the NFL. Baker ranked 9th in passing yards last season, while Evans ranked 9th in receiving yards. It’s safe to say the Commanders will have their hands full in Week 1.

For me, these two are clearly the best duo on this list. Tua and Tyreek dominated last season, especially in home games. The Dolphins were the second best passing yards team last season, averaging 271.9 yards per game in Miami. The difference between home and away games was also evident in Tyreek Hill’s stats, as he rushed for over 1,000 yards at Hard Rock Stadium alone. The Dolphins were especially good in home games early last season, and I hope that trend continues in 2024.

They have a very favorable matchup in the opening week, as they host a Jaguars defense that ranked 26th in the NFL in passing yards given up last season. Tua led the NFL in passing yards last season, while Tyreek led the league in receiving yards. This couldn’t be a tougher matchup for this Jaguars secondary, and I think this Miami offense will start the season full steam ahead. The connection between Tua and Tyreek should go a long way, and I could easily see Tyreek finishing Week 1 with over 100 receiving yards.
