Raid on Norwalk liquor store leads to arrests for gambling and drug offenses

NORWALK – Authorities arrested two men on suspicion of illegal gambling and drug trafficking at a local liquor store on Wednesday, Norwalk police said.

The Norwalk Police Department’s Special Services Division, with assistance from the Fire Marshalls Division and the State of Connecticut Consumer Protection Division (Alcohol Control), executed search and seizure warrants at Cocchia’s Liquor Store, located at 23 Ely Avenue, as well as a federal arrest warrant for one of the individuals involved.

During the operation, police arrested 48-year-old Felix Galindo-Castillo, also known as Cocchie, and identified him as the founder of the Los Vagos gang in Mexico.

Galindo-Castillo, who faces charges of illegal re-entry into the United States, had a New York State warrant for his arrest and was found to be selling large quantities of cocaine from the store.

His bail was set at $55,000, plus $1 million for the fugitive from justice.

Another suspect, 44-year-old Jose Gerado Fuentes-Lima, was also arrested.

Inside the liquor store, police discovered seven large, illegal gambling machines that paid out cash for receipts.

Approximately $4,932 in cash, with gambling receipts wrapped in rubber bands, were seized along with several bags of cocaine and two replica handguns.

The court date for both men is set for August 21.

The investigation is ongoing. This is the second arrest for drug and gambling violations at this location within a year.

Revenues from illegal gambling and cocaine sales are subject to confiscation of state assets.
