Raiders snap up top QB; Cam Ward fits in with the Dolphins in the future

The first week of the NFL has shown how quickly things can change in the NFL. As teams’ needs and draft positioning change from week to week, NFL Mock Drafts becomes all the more entertaining and exciting as the 2025 NFL prospects rise and fall from week to week depending on their performance.

Although there is no clear top quarterback candidate like Caleb Williams, 2025 NFL Draft will have some interesting QB talents worth a look in the first round. So far in the college football season, top talents like Georgia’s Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers from Texas And Miami’s Cam Ward arrived as announced. Shedeur Sanders from Colorado is struggling and is in the spotlight as he is clearly a wild card as a player in the 2025 NFL Draft.

But more than the talent of quarterbacks rising and falling every week, the NFL teams that need quarterbacks change. NFL quarterbacks like Deshaun Watson, Bryce Young and Daniel Jones are already under scrutiny, but due to his recent concussionMiami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has the franchise considering a possible short-term solution that could lead to a long-term target in the 2025 NFL Draft.

A look at some early NFL mock drafts shows that the Las Vegas Raiders will take a quarterback, and the choice is obvious.

Georgia’s Carson Beck will be a top 10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Whether he will be selected as the best quarterback is the question. Right now, he is one of the safest bets and a top QB. Chris Trapasso of CBS.com has one of five signal callers selected in the first round.

According to the NFL Mock Drafts, is Carson Beck a top target for the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2025 NFL Draft?

In his Mock Draft 2.0, Trapasso writes:

“At this point, no one has any idea how the situation at the quarterback position will play out in April – there’s no real consensus on those top guys – but Beck seems like the safest bet, and the Raiders need stability at the game’s most important position.”

NFL Mocks has the Raiders also as early option for Beck. At the very least, it would be interesting to see Beck reunited with teammate Brock Bowers in Las Vegas. With a familiar target already, the Bulldogs’ current quarterback could have an easier transition to the NFL given his skill set and the chemistry he already has with Bowers. Can they recreate the magic of college football in the NFL? Like Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, this would be a pairing to keep an eye on in 2025.

In the same mock draft, Trapasso has the Carolina Panthers selecting Cam Ward with the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward has played great, but that seems like a lot for a quarterback who would have been drafted in the middle rounds at best if he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. But a major reason he stayed in college and transferred to Miami is to become a better quarterback and showcase his talent.

As a dual-threat signalman, he has already done this by throwing for 689 yards for the Hurricanes with 6 touchdownsDepending on what happens with Tagovailoa the rest of the season, the Dolphins should think about signing a possible replacement player, as Tua seems just a stone’s throw away from retirement at this point.

Ward staying in South Beach and playing for the Dolphins could be a win-win situation in Miami. As for the possibility of drafting Ward, if Tua is out for several weeks, the Dolphins could be in for a mediocre season, which would put them in draft position where they could trade Ward if needed.

The Dolphins’ situation with Tagovailoa is one to keep an eye on as the NFL season progresses, as Miami now has a reason to target one of the top QBs in the 2025 NFL Draft.
