Raising Cane’s began its expansion into the DC metro area with the opening of its first restaurant in December 2022 in Sterling, VA (45545 Dulles Eastern Plaza). The first Maryland location opened in Towson in January 2023, and both stores had lines out the door several days a week for months. More locations have opened across the state, and now a location has been announced in College Park, MD, at the corner of Route 1 and Knox Road.

According to a report from The Diamondback, Raising Cane’s will take the place of the recently closed Nando’s Peri-Peri location in College Park. “The restaurant is expected to open in August or September 2025, according to a representative for Raising Cane’s.”

We previously reported that Raising Cane has over 15 locations in Maryland alone. Many of the remaining locations in Maryland have not yet been announced and we await word on whether Montgomery County will also open. College Park is currently one of the locations closest to the county.

Founded in 1996 by Todd Graves in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Raising Cane’s has more than 460 restaurants in 27 states, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with several new restaurants under construction. International expansion began in 2015. The menu is simple and focuses on chicken finger combos, chicken finger sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, sweet/iced tea and Cane’s sauce.
