Rams vs. Lions Prop Bets: TE Sam LaPorta could see a big game

Rams vs. Lions Prop Bets: TE Sam LaPorta could see a big game

The Los Angeles Rams open the NFL season on Sunday night against the Detroit Lions. With high expectations, both teams will look to start the season with a win. The Rams and Lions last met in the NFC Wild Card round when Detroit won 24-23.

In that game, tight end Sam LaPorta was injured but still managed to score a crucial touchdown on fourth down in the red zone. LaPorta will be healthy this time and the Rams will certainly try to keep him in check throughout the game.

This season, SB Nation is cooperating with FanDuel Sports Betting to give you our expert opinion on our recommendations for your tips when you participate in sports betting. Here are two games I like for Week 1.

Sam LaPorta Over 5.5 receptions

The Los Angeles Rams were one of the worst defenses in the NFL when it came to covering tight ends last season. In 2023, the Rams defense allowed 4.7 receptions per game to tight ends, while Sam LaPorta averaged over five receptions per game.

This looks to be a matchup that Ben Johnson and the Lions offense can exploit. While the Rams will look to activate their safeties in coverage to block the middle of the field, they will also rely on linebackers Troy Reeder and Christian Rozeboom. LaPorta is one of the best tight ends in the NFL and after the transfer of Ernest Jones, the Rams don’t exactly have inspiring names at the linebacker position.

Blake Corum anytime touchdown (+230)

While I expect Kyren Williams to still get most of the runs here in the Rams backfield, Corum should get his share of involvement. Corum returns to Michigan State after his college career in Ann Arbor. Williams had his share of success in the red zone last season, but Corum scored 27 rushing touchdowns last season with the Wolverines.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Corum play in the red zone, or if the rookie is on the field for an offense, he should have a chance to get into the end zone. This is a riskier play since we don’t know exactly what the workload will be for the Rams’ two running backs, but it’s worth it.
