Rancho Palos Verdes Mayor Asks Elon Musk to Help Homeowners Affected by Gas and Possible Power Shutoffs

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. (KABC) — The mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes is asking Elon Musk to help homeowners in the landslide area affected by gas and possible power outages.

Mayor John Cruikshank sent a letter to Musk last week saying Tesla could help the community.

“Given Tesla’s advances in solar technology and energy storage solutions, we see a potential partnership to equip these homes with solar panels and Powerwall batteries,” the letter said. “This initiative would not only provide immediate relief to these residents, but would also demonstrate the feasibility of clean energy solutions in a real-world scenario and further solidify Tesla’s role as a pioneer of the green energy revolution.”

Cruikshank also invited Musk to tour the area.

Since spring 2023, the city has experienced a significant increase in traffic flows, resulting in road damage and the marking of two houses that were so badly damaged that it became dangerous to live in them.

The earth movements also caused water and gas lines to break, sewer collection pipes to shift, and power poles to tilt. On October 3, 2023, the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council declared a state of emergency, which was extended on May 8.

ABC7 has contacted Tesla, but it is unclear if Musk received the letter.
