Ranking the top 5 freshmen in South Dakota for 2024

The South Dakota high school football season has begun, and the Argus Leader is ranking the top five freshmen in the Sioux Falls area for the 2024 SDHSAA season.

While most freshmen in the metro area don’t get much playing time, there are some in Class 11A who get the chance to play on the varsity team.

Here is the Argus Leader’s ranking of the region’s top freshmen in alphabetical order:

Bentley Aasheim

Canton-Gymnasium

Aasheim is part of a three-man freshman duo that Canton coach Rich Lundstom said has learned incredibly quickly so far. Aasheim is 6-foot-10 and plays both defensive back and running back.

Noah Beatty

Canton-Gymnasium

At 6’1″, Beatty is another freshman defensive back who could see some time on the varsity team for the C-Hawks. He has impressed early on with his work ethic and competitive spirit.

Jase Charlin

Canton-Gymnasium

A versatile player who has stood out for his athleticism, Charrlin has the potential to play quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back, with the latter two being more likely this season.

Cooper Beach

Sioux Falls Christian High School

Strande is another freshman who has made waves with his athleticism. Sioux Falls Christian football coach Jared Smith said Strande will be seen playing both wide receiver and defensive back this season.

Rowan VanderStouwe

Sioux Falls Christian High School

VanderStouwe is someone who has the size and skill to spend some time on the offensive or defensive line as a freshman. Sioux Falls Christian coach Jared Smith said he could use Vanderstouwe in crucial moments.
