July 12, 2024 began like any other day for Jose Romero. The dishwasher at Red Lobster in Pueblo, Colorado, began his layer by unpacking the day’s lobster deliveries. But when he got into the box with the live Crustaceans, he noticed a lively orange lobster. It was unlike any other he had seen in his twelve years on the job.

When he realized that he stumbled on something unusualRomero showed his find to Kendra Kastendieck, the restaurant’s manager. Kastendieck, who has been working in the food industry for two years, Decadesnever had met an orange lobster, either.

“Everyone knows the blue lobsters because they make Headlines and they are so brilliant in color, but these are only one in 2 million, the orange ones are one in 30 million. That’s why we thought it was especially cool when it came to the restaurant,” Kastendieck said.

The Red Lobster team called the unique Hummer “Crush” in honor of the Denver Broncos’ first championship team, “The Orange Crush.”

“I and many of my team members are native Denver Broncos fans and when we saw the orange color, we knew Crush would be an excellent Depictionsaid Kastendieck.

They then began searching for a permanent home for Crush and found one willing to take him in at the Downtown Aquarium in Denver. The lobster, who was brought to his new home on July 17, will spend a 30-day quarantine period there. Once the veterinarian gives permission, Crush will join other North Atlantic residents such as the American spiny lobsters in the “Lurks” exhibit.
