Raveena Tandon dismisses rumours about her ‘catfight’ with Karisma Kapoor at the airport and claims ‘there used to be fistfights between men’

The alleged rivalry between Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor has been making headlines for decades. The duo were strong companions at the peak of their careers and rumours have it that they didn’t even speak to each other on the sets of their hit comedy Andaz Apna Apna. In a recent interview with Filmfare, Raveena opened up about their infamous ‘catfight’ on the sets of Aatish.

At the start of the conversation, Raveena admitted that she remains friends with many of her castmates, including Pooja Bhatt, Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit and Shilpa Shetty. The 49-year-old said, “That camaraderie is still very strong, but there are some who were insecure then and still are now and couldn’t maintain those bonds. But we still meet privately. But when you say catfights, there were never really catfights.”

The interviewer then mentioned Raveena’s infamous “catfight” with Karisma Kapoor at an airport during the outdoor shoot of Aatish, which had been covered in the tabloids at the time. Tandon, in her defence, said it was not a catfight. “I disagree. There was never a catfight. There might have been a discussion, there might have been a ‘why are you doing this and what is the reason behind it and let’s bridge this gap’, but there was never a catfight.”

Raveena Tandon said the whole fiasco was just hyped up with ‘mirch masala’. The actress said that celebs too could not come forward and explain their part because there was no social media back then. The Mohra starrer further claimed that her male contemporaries were even involved in physical altercations, but these did not make headlines.

“Men actually had fist fights back then, so what did you call them? Women didn’t. The most we would discuss was, ‘What’s going on? Let’s bury the hatchet.’ But some people didn’t want to, so it became a catfight. There were no catfights,” Raveena said.

On the professional front, Tandon is excited about the release of Ghudchadi, which has recently started streaming on Jio Cinema. The romantic comedy also stars Sanjay Dutt, Parth Samthaan, Khushalii Kumar and Aruna Irani in important roles.
