Frankly, there aren’t many opening ceremonies left for untouched destinations, but make note of what may be the most exciting airport news of the year this fall.

Better yet, two more are in the works for the same goal. For those you will have to wait until 2026, but the first domino will fall November.

One of Europe’s most difficult to reach destinations will now be much easier to reach with the first batch of flights already scheduled.

Unfortunately, you have to change via Denmark, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers, and over the years, a lot of begging has been done to Greenland more accessible.

Make way, Iceland! There’s a new natural wonder to discover

Iceland has long been a fascinating, far-flung destination full of wonderful places, but today it is so much easier to get to that many people say it is not worth the trip.

Between the astronomical prices – possibly the highest in Europe – and the crowded waterfalls and thermal springs, doppelgangers like the beautiful Faroe Islands have become all the more attractive.

Of course, the Faroe Islands got there before Greenland and even introduced direct flights to the USA.

Greenland, however, is a better known name, as it has long been considered Europe’s last frontier to be explored.

The flight here was quite a journey, so many people chose cruises instead.

Greenland receives a large number of cruise tourists. According to Greenland’s official tourism statistics, there was even an increase of 73% from 2022 to 2023.

Now even more travellers will surely take to the skies to avoid the stress of first flying to Iceland and then setting sail and crossing the icy sea.

Starting in autumn, your visit will be easier than ever.

Truly wild: Imagine Iceland, Alaska and Antarctica in one place

Greenland is not a separate country, but Danish territory.

While it’s not necessarily an alternative to Copenhagen itself, it’s a great alternative to some of the world’s most remote natural wonders.

Believe it or not, Antarctica has seen a huge surge in travel interest at the beginning of the year, so there is definitely a lot of hype for these types of destinations.

Visiting urban jungles like New York City and Sao Paulo can be the trip of a lifetime, but nothing compares to immersing yourself in the elements of a raw, untouched atmosphere, which is why I’m glad I had the chance to visit Iceland before it became super popular.

You will feel the same about Greenland.

Imagine riding a dog sled through vast snowy landscapes and visiting breathtaking glaciers without the inconvenience of selfie sticks like in Iceland.

Perhaps the best thing would be to experience the Northern Lights in a place where there is no light pollution at all.

Just crystal clear, dancing skies all to yourself. And the 60,000 or so inhabitants of the entire island…

It is often said that Greenland and Iceland should have swapped names, but there are a few places where you can enjoy a beautiful hike with wonderful views even without hiking boots.

I don’t want to get political here, but this particular place has made a difference in the discussion about climate change.

Opening of the new Nuuk airport in November

The capital of Greenland is Nuuk, a small, vibrant city with stunning scenery, colorful architecture, incredible whale watching tours and proud locals who hold on to long-standing traditions.

This will be your gateway to Greenland 29 November 2024 when the new international airport opens its runway for direct flights from Copenhagen (CPH).

Tickets are now available for $415 on Air Greenland’s official website.

One concern “experts” have about more travel to Greenland is the lack of hotel rooms.

For a country where most tourists spend the night on a cruise ship, this is a legitimate cause for concern.

If Rome wasn’t built in a day, we shouldn’t expect Greenland to be either.

Only time will tell how this problem develops, but currently there are hotels spread across major travel destinations.

More listings are also popping up on Airbnb as locals become more comfortable opening their homes to travelers.
