According to Health Canada, the brightly colored booster seats and seat cushions “could increase the risk of injury in the event of an impact.” The booster seats and seat cushions are not certified for use in Canada and do not carry the Transport Canada national safety mark.

“The use of these restraint systems in a motor vehicle would be illegal under provincial and territorial road traffic laws,” the recall notice states.

About 100 of the recalled items have been sold in Canada, but no injuries or incidents have been reported so far.

The products were sold by third-party sellers through the Walmart.ca website and may have been resold through other online marketplaces. The items have been removed from the Walmart website and the foreign sellers have been notified.

Anyone who has purchased one of the recalled products should stop using the item immediately, cut the straps with scissors and dispose of the product.

Caregivers are reminded that approved and safety-tested car seats sold in Canada must bear the National Safety Mark. It is illegal to import, sell or use any car seat in Canada that does not bear the National Safety Mark. It is also illegal to gift, sell or use a car seat that does not meet the safety standard or that has expired.
