Record number of bidders: “Something Wicked” leads the digital Fasig-Tipton auction in August

The August Fasig-Tipton digital sale, which attracted 830 registered bidders – a record for the platform – ended Tuesday with 181 horses sold for $3,659,700. The auction rate was 79% and the average was $25,592.

The highlight of the online auction was Something evil (Gun Runner) (hip 5), who was sold for $260,000 from consignment by Northview Stallion Station, agent, to HX3 Incorporated. The 3-year-old mare, sold as a racing or broodmare candidate, won her first race at Delaware Park on July 18.

“This sale shows that Fasig-Tipton Digital is there for all levels and segments,” said Leif Aaron, Director of Digital Sales at Fasig-Tipton. “We continue to provide our buyers and sellers with the same first-class service as we would at a traditional sale. We had 830 registered bidders for this sale, which is an average of four bidders for every horse offered. We are reaching a whole new class of buyers while continuing to serve our traditional buyers. Our sell-through rate reflects that.”

The five best offers were rounded off by: School dance (Animal Kingdom) (Hip 2), a promising race/broodmare, sold for $150,000 from consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency, Agent, to Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and Mike Abraham; Cause trouble (Into Mischief) (hip 13), a racing age horse sold for $150,000 from consignment of Indian Creek, Agent, to Lawrence P. Roman; Tapit shoes (Tapit) (hip 6), a horse of racing age, sold for $140,000 from consignment by ELiTE, agent, to Steve Moger; and Shuangxi (Ireland) (Cotai Glory {GB}) (hip 3), a promising race/broodmare, was sold for $115,000 from consignment of agent Delacour Stable to Charles C. Henderson.

Among the diverse offerings was a group of New Mexico-bred yearlings consigned by A & A Ranch, 18 of which sold for $604,100 gross.

“The A&A Ranch offerings were Fasig-Tipton Digital’s first major foray into the Southwest market and we are pleased with the results,” Aaron said. “We appreciate A&A trusting us with their yearlings. Our platform has proven successful in several regional markets since its launch.”

Fasig-Tipton Digital’s gross revenue has now exceeded $30,000,000 in 2024.

“We are the oldest Thoroughbred auction house in North America and we approach these digital sales with the same professionalism and standards as our traditional live auctions. As a result, the platform is growing,” Aaron said.
