ReFuels begins construction of new bio-CNG filling station in Scotland

The station, operated under the CNG Fuels brand, enables low-emission transport between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

ReFuels NV has broken ground on a new bio-CNG filling station in Livingston in West Lothian, Scotland. The publicly accessible bio-CNG filling station, under the CNG Fuels brand, will enable low-emission transport between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

At full capacity, the Livingstone station can fuel 14 trucks simultaneously, allowing it to fuel more than 600 trucks per day with a total capacity of 20 million kg of bio-CNG per year. CNG Fuels also operates Scotland’s first publicly accessible renewable biomethane truck fuelling station on the M8 near Bellshill, which opened in 2021.

“The Livingston station is located right next to several major distribution centres, including Tesco and DHL, and once operational it will enable fleet operators and their customers to further decarbonise logistics in Scotland. Bio-CNG is a low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuels and is more cost-effective than diesel,” said Philip Fjeld, CEO of ReFuels.

CNG Fuels’ current UK network of 14 operational stations has the capacity to fuel more than 9,500 trucks per day. The aim is to have 30 to 40 stations under construction and operational by the end of 2026, which equates to a total capacity of up to 23,000 trucks per day and more than 650 million kg of biomethane per year.
