Remodeled Tony’s Fresh Market reopens in Illinois

Tony’s Fresh Market will reopen its doors to shoppers in Waukegan, Illinois, on Aug. 28 following a major store overhaul, Tony’s parent company Heritage Grocers Group announced Monday.

The store, at 1700 N. Lewis Ave., will open at 7 a.m. and the first 100 customers will receive a $50 Tony’s Fresh Market gift card, the company said in a news release. Tony’s will hold a grand opening ceremony at 9 a.m. and will donate $5,000 to Beach Place, a nonprofit community center, through the Tony’s Charitable Foundation.

“This store has been modernized and redesigned to enhance the shopping experience and meet the needs of our local customers,” said Frank Ingraffia, CEO of Tony’s Fresh Market. “This investment demonstrates our commitment to the Waukegan community and will offer an exceptional and expanded selection of fresh and authentic foods, friendly customer service and great prices in a refreshed and modernized atmosphere.”

The Hispanic specialty grocery store will offer authentic Mexican cuisine including carnitas, tamales and taqueria classics, the grocer said.

The remodeled grocery store will feature a produce department featuring seasonal fruits and vegetables from the U.S. and Latin America, a full-service meat department, a full-service deli, a tortilleria, a sushi station and a bakery.

Heritage operates stores in California, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Kansas and Illinois. These include 58 Cardenas Markets, 29 El Rancho Supermercados, 21 Tony’s Fresh Markets and seven Los Altos Ranch Markets.

In addition to the redesigned store, customers at Tony’s will get a new website and loyalty program. Heritage recently updated the website, which now features a new interface, recipes, online shopping and more. The company also revamped its “Tony’s Rewards” program, which offers weekly deals, digital deals and promotional discounts.
